Excellent for SOHO servers,
I have a Dell PowerEdge T610 at home for archiving regular data (spreadsheets and so on), photos and home-made videos. I also work with TI and it serves as my lab. The server is always on – 24×7 – and with all 8 bays occupied, I was tired of replacing regular PC WD 2 GBytes discs every month. After some tests with a couple of these Hitachi hard drives, I decided to replace all disks in my server. Couldn’t be happier!
The I/O is twice faster than before and no more disks dying all the time. The rebuilt of a 3 Tb disk in RAID 6 took no longer than 3 hours. Also they are very, very quiet.
If you need space and reliability, I couldn’t find anything better.

|Wow- Fast and Quiet,
I bought 2 of these because I bought a very similar 2TB Hitachi before and was very happy with it. These are even better. I wanted the new ones before Western Digital de-Hitachi’d them (i.e. discontinues them or replaces them with WD drive mechanisms). Boy am I glad I got these. They weren’t the cheapest, but they are a premium drive- and you can tell.
* VERY, VERY quiet- I have to put my ear up to the running bare drive to tell it’s on. I have never heard a drive this quiet, ever.
* Very fast- I don’t remember now (it’s been a couple of weeks) exactly the stats of MB/Sec, but transferring the files from my old drive to this one was very fast, as it should be with a 64MB cache.
* Also not very warm- it was just slightly warm to the touch, so it shouldn’t be any problem in cases with a lot of drives.
I hope these hold up like I’m expecting them to. I’m putting both in a 4-drive external tower to replace older/smaller/slower drives.

|Enterprise-class Hard Drives – These are the best!,
goHardDrive had the very best price on these Enterprise-class hard drives. (Enterprise class HDDs are super heavy duty and manufactured to operate 24/7, as in servers or other data-intensive read-write applications. These are rated for 2 million hours of non-stop operation and 600,000 start-ups; and they are heavier than any hard drive I’ve ever handled [read: solidly built].) The capacity is huge (3TB), which is what I needed for video editing. They arrived on time and installed perfectly. They are operating flawlessly and consider this: that’s 9 TB of storage! Oh wow! They have very fast data transfer and are amazingly silent! I would recommend this seller for any of your hard drive needs! I only wish I needed a couple more, but with a total of 14 TB in my system, I’m pretty sure that will hold me over, probably for a lifetime!
