What is the current US Supreme Court position towards the Death Penalty?

Question by : What is the current US Supreme Court position towards the Death Penalty?
I’ve looked online, but i can’t find anything that really says bluntly what the position is. Also if there are any thoughts of an alternative to the death penalty other than lethal injection or ones from history, mention your opinion on that too. I need to come up with a solution thinking about both the perpetrator and the victim’s immediate family.

There was a stay placed on the death penalty not long ago, by the supreme court I believe. This was lifted.

State courts sometimes put stays on executions because of concerns over “cruel and unusual punishment” it depends on the state, and the method of execution.

The supreme court’s rulings are only binding to a SINGLE particular case, but they are usually implemented like a law — since any returning case would meet the same fate.

They also do not usually state their opinions so bluntly, they usually do so in very long briefs, that go over a multitude of factors. If you ever seen their opinion simply as “pro” or “against” you are a reading someone’s opinion of what they said – it’s never quite that simple. (Though inevitably it ends up being that simple, as it is implemented that way.)

So far they have left it up to the individual states to decide.
